“O Criado” by André Murraças on stage in the last days of the Almada Festival

“O Criado”, based on the novel The Servant, by the English writer Robin Maugham (1916-1981), which Harold Pinter and Joseph Losey adapted to the cinema in 1963, the show explores the artificiality of social roles and the reasons and modes of these constructions. Cinematographic, it transposes to a contemporary language of the theater (sometimes called through the medium) a curious human landscape, in which the actors are presented as servants of the stage directors and the audience as a body of voyeurs. Containing two parts, the show begins by evoking Dirk Bogarde (1921-1999), who starred in the film playing the role of Barrett, a malicious servant who subverts the most common predatory relationship, and whose existence was marked by the refusal of the current norms.

“O Criado” enters the scene and can be seen at three different hours: at 3 pm, at 6 pm, and at 9:30 pm, in the Ballroom of the Incredible Almadense.

At 9:30 pm, you can see three shows: in the TMJB Experimental Room, Mártir, by Marius von Mayenburg, staged by Rodrigo Francisco, by CTA; The maid Zerlina, from Hermann Broch, staged by João Botelho, by Culturproject; and Rebota rebota y en tu cara explota, a creation by Agnés Mateus and Quim Tarrida, at the Cine-Teatro of the Academia Almadense.
