The Municipality of Leiria and the municipality’s School Groups organized, this school year, the “Pequenos Cantores de Leiria” project, an initiative whose main objectives were to promote the cultural development and musical learning of children, as well as the implementation of children’s choirs in educational establishments.
The action, part of the Municipal Education Project and under the umbrella of Leiria Cidade Criativa da Música UNESCO, involved Master Jorge Narciso, from the Coral Mezzo Academy, and 183 children from the 3rd year of elementary school classes at eight basic schools (Andrinos , Barreira, Bidoeira, Branca, Caranguejeira, Maceira, Marrazes and Monte Real), and students were asked to, in addition to interpreting the songs, create a story around the lyrics of the song.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the various presentations were held in concert format at the respective educational establishments, accompanied by live music, namely piano and violin.
It is expected that, at the beginning of the next school year, a video will be presented with all the performances.
