True time machines will travel this weekend along the route between Figueira da Foz and Lisbon, recreating the first automotive competition in the Iberian Peninsula, held in 1902, which led to the foundation of the Automobile Club of Portugal.
The ACP Classics will recreate a historic moment this weekend: the first automotive competition held in the Iberian Peninsula, which 122 years ago connected Figueira da Foz to Lisbon. The Figueira da Foz – Lisbon Raid is particularly relevant as it marked the beginning of national motorsport and gave rise to the foundation of the Automobile Club of Portugal in 1903, at the initiative of King D. Carlos I.
More than 30 cars manufactured until 1939 will travel the roads between the Silver Coast and the Portuguese capital, divided into two days. On Saturday (October 26), the competitors will gather in Figueira da Foz from 11:00 a.m., with the departure scheduled for 2:30 p.m. The convoy will then head to Óbidos, passing through Vieira de Leiria, São Pedro de Moel, Nazaré, São Martinho do Porto, and Foz do Arelho, with the Royal Óbidos Resort hosting the dinner that concludes the first stage.
On Sunday, machines and drivers will depart at 10:30 a.m. towards Enxara do Bispo (Mafra municipality), passing through Peniche, Lourinhã, Santa Cruz, and Torres Vedras, with a lunch stop at Quinta do Casal Novo. After lunch, the last section of the Figueira da Foz-Lisbon Raid will pass through Malveira, with arrival expected at the Museum of Lisbon, in Campo Grande, around 4:00 p.m. There, the celebration will be like in 1902, with the drivers being honoured at the finish line in front of the public.
In addition to the classics up to 1939, ACP members with cars manufactured between 1940 and 1970 can accompany the pre-war vehicles, on a route that promises beautiful images, harkening back to the early days of motorsport in Portugal.
