Reopening of the Variedades Theatre

The Variedades Theatre will reopen next weekend, on October 5th and 6th, with music, entertainment, urban art, cinema, and, of course, theatre.

This event, with free entry (subject to venue capacity), symbolizes a new era for Parque Mayer, a historic space of Portuguese theatre that enhances Culture, Art, and Theatre in Lisbon.

During the space’s rehabilitation, EGEAC/Lisboa Cultura was concerned about accessibility. In this regard, Acesso Cultura was asked for an accessibility diagnosis of the Variedades Theatre and the Capitólio, which will serve as the basis for a guiding document for a short/medium-term effort to improve public access, as well as for teams and artists. The programming follows these objectives.

The reopening event calls for the participation of different audiences: on October 5th and 6th, Saturday and Sunday, the party is marked by the premiere of two plays by Ricardo Neves-Neves, “Entraria Nesta Sala” and “The Swimming Pool Party,” at the Variedades Theatre, the concert “No Futuro Lisboa,” curated by Dino D’Santiago and musically directed by André Gravata, and the fado concert with Pedro Jóia & José Manuel Neto featuring special guest Aurora, at the Capitólio. All these shows will have interpretation in Portuguese Sign Language, Audio Description, and in the case of concerts, also sensory vests.

The hall of the Variedades Theatre has 7 seats for people using wheelchairs (in the auditorium and boxes), 2 adapted restrooms and an elevator.

People with specific needs are entitled to a 20% discount on the ticket price and a free ticket for a personal assistant.

Until the end of the year, it will be possible to attend performances with interpretation in Portuguese Sign Language and Audio Description on the following dates:
