Salvador Sobral performs at the Barbican Center in London
The Portuguese singer Salvador Sobral performs in February next year at the Barbican Center in London, as part of a “long international tour” that follows the edition of the album “Paris, Lisbon”, was announced today.
“He has just edited ‘Paris, Lisbon’, from which he will be leaving for a long international tour, and on the agenda, Salvador Sobral already has a scheduled trip to London, where he will perform in concert for the first time on February 20, 2020. The room chosen to host the first concert of the Portuguese singer on His Majesty’s land is the iconic Barbican Center, “said the agency of production and cultural production Fado in a Box in a statement released today.
Tickets for the concert will go on sale from Friday.
“Paris, Lisbon“, the second album by Salvador Sobral, presents a “more mature” sound, with several influences and the participation of “immense friends“, in which the singer continues “looking“.
The album appears three years after “Excuse Me“, in which the singer crossed references of a life, from the jazz of Chet Baker to the Brazilian classics of Dorival Caymmi, and almost two years after having won the Eurovision Song Contest, with the music “Amar pela dos“, composed by her sister, Luísa Sobral, becoming the first Portuguese to achieve this achievement.
In the second album, “the musicians are basically the same, the band’s sound is the same” as in the first, but “a bit more mature,” the singer said in an interview.
“Paris, Lisbon“, whose title is in part a tribute to Wim Wenders’ “Paris, Texas“, Salvador Sobral’s “favourite film” is a “disc of influences“, but also an album in which the singer remains “on the lookout“.
“I’m always looking for the music I do and I always hope to continue. I’ll never really find what I want to do because I like doing so many things, but I think it’s a healthy artistic incoherence,” he said.
In the alignment of the singer’s concerts already have also entered some of the 12 songs that make up “Paris, Lisbon“.
Among the friends who joined Salvador Sobral in the design and production of the album are drummer Joel Silva, pianist Júlio Resende, singers Luísa Sobral and António Zambujo, bassist André Rosinha and guitarist André Santos.
He is currently touring Poland, where he has performed in Krakow, Katowice, Wroclaw and Warsaw.
“This month the singer performs in Portugal, in the city of Viseu (April 20), and then follows a tour of ten concerts in Germany and Switzerland (between April 23 and May 1),” says Fado in a Box.
In May, Salvador Sobral debuted at the Coliseum in Lisbon (10th) and Porto (11th). Before, on May 3, he works at the Teatro das Figuras, in Faro.
During this year, the musician “will return to Spain to visit or revisit the venues where he passed in 2018, including the iconic Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona, and will travel around the world with concerts already confirmed in the Baltic countries and Finland.”
