A fantastic night of Cante Alentejano on World Music Day

São Luiz Municipal Theater

World Music Day could not have received a better tribute; the Cante Alentejano took to the stage of São Luiz for a fantastic night where some of the best choral groups from Alentejo represented the Cante brilliantly.

The Cante Alentejano came to Lisbon, often forgotten and abandoned, giving the Lisbon Hall an unforgettable night. Alive through the older voices that continue to sing it, but also in the young voices that have discovered this wonderful way of singing.

The Cante celebrates, in 2024, a decade as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, this distinction has helped in the recognition not only of the way of singing but also of all the performers of the Cante.

This project that was present in Lisbon, Cantexto, an original project of Futurama – Cultural and Artistic Ecosystem of Baixo Alentejo, has invited contemporary Portuguese writers to compose new styles for the choral groups, updating their traditional repertoires.

Thus, not only have the lyrics and songs been renewed, but Cantexto guarantees the continuity of one of the most beautiful traditions of Alentejo and Portugal.

Editor’s note

A fantastic concert like this deserved someone with quality doing the lights; the lighting presented was of very poor quality. I always wonder whether the lighting technician does not like the music, the artist, or simply the work they do, or if they consider themselves a genius of lighting and decide to “invent” without respecting the participants, the audience, and the press, forgetting the most basic rule of lighting: to see the artists and the show.
