António Zambujo will release a new single, entitled “Lote B“, on February 12th
[dropcap]A[/dropcap]ntónio Zambujo is a week away from revealing “Lote B”, the first single from his new and ninth album, the eighth of originals, scheduled to be released in March.
Recently, in a duet with Gal Costa published on his new album “Gal 75”, he recently played the classic by Tom Jobim and Chico Buarque “Pois é”, originally recorded on the album “Água viva” (1978), confessing that “singing with Gal is to sing with a legend! A dream come true, singing a Tom song! Better is impossible!“.
This collaboration is another tribute by António Zambujo to the Brazilian songbook, in particular to Bossa Nova, which he incorporated in his music, first forged in the tradition of Cante Alentejano and Fado, from where he started to create a unique personality, inspiring a new cycle in Portuguese music. In his discography, “Até Pensei Que Fosse Minha”, the tribute album to Chico Buarque that he edited in 2016 and which even earned him a nomination for the Latin Grammy the following year, in the category of Best MPB Record.
It was also not strange that at the end of 2018 he called “Do Avesso” the new album of originals, in which he reinvented himself again, using the participation of the Sinfonietta Orchestra of Lisbon, and which would end up being awarded the José Afonso Award 2019 The jury considered that “Do Avesso” represented “not only the continuation of António Zambujo’s extremely coherent course, but also a highlight for the confirmation of his interpretative qualities and the great creative inspiration he reveals” and added that “each song by António Zambujo tells a story, and each album is, in itself, a story, along the lines of José Afonso, for whom music was intrinsically linked to both his inner life and the circumstances of the world in which he lived”.
The new album of originals is, therefore, the next chapter in the work of this perennial talent, precious and primordial as a diamond, whose hearing re-connects us to the world, when everything, in this unstable and unpredictable moment of confinement, has now frightened us, now alienated. Until its release we will have “Lote B”, to listen in repeat.
