Desidério Lázaro, Rão Kyao, Olga Roriz, and more at the Music Festival in Leiria

In the 39th edition of the festival organized by Orfeão de Leiria, the same philosophy remains, based on a classical matrix, opening up to other musical aesthetics, promoting and encouraging dialogue between different areas and musical genres, blurring borders which are only theoretically watertight.

Also this year, in addition to setting the stage for established names and projects, such as Desidério Lázaro, Rão Kyao and António Chainho and Olga Roriz, the initiative promotes the presentation of young musicians, such as Orchestra XXI and Sofia Silva Sousa and Marta Menezes, pianist which opened the festival on Monday.

On Thursday, at the José Lúcio da Silva Theater (TJLS), in Leiria, the XXI Orchestra performs, with a concert designed for string orchestra.

On May 8th, Portuguese saxophonist Desidério Lázaro presents “Stillness in Time”, an album recorded in 2020 in a duo with pianist Daniel Bernardes, and on the 28th of that month, the multimedia comic opera “Simplex” is presented, with a libretto by Carlos Tê and José Topa, staged by António Durães and musical composition by Telmo Marques.

On June 3, also at TJLS, a concert by the Portuguese guitar master António Chainho with Rão Kyao will be held, a show that was scheduled in 2020, at the 38th edition of the festival, but which was postponed due to the pandemic .

On June 18, the company Olga Roriz presents “Autopsy” at the TJLS.

The festival also includes performances by The Opera Locos, Ensemble Darcos, and the Filarmonia das Beiras Orchestra with S.A. Marionetas.

The organization also plans to hold concerts by Miguel Amaral and Pedro Rodrigues, Quarteto Lopes Graça, Pedro Caldeira Cabral and Sofia Sousa, whose dates are yet to be announced.
