Carlos Sainz wins his third Dakar

Sainz, who was already the most veteran rider to have won the Dakar, extends that record by another couple of years.

The years pass, but Carlos Sainz never tires of being in the spotlight. For 11 months he got used to being the “father of” a Formula 1 driver, but in January the scenario changes and the world speaks of a Formula 1 driver whose father is… a myth.

This Friday, at the age of 57, the Spanish driver won the Dakar Rally for the third time in car, having already initialed in the CV the 2010 and 2018 titles.

Carlos Sainz overcame Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota) catari and Frenchman Stéphane Peterhansel (Mini), who was sailed by Portuguese Paulo Fiúza.

In the 12th and final stage, the Madrid driver, the two-time world rally champion in the 1990s, was fifth, 3.56 minutes from Al-Attiyah, who won the stage, a result sufficient to guarantee the final victory.
