The world first heard Cécile McLorin Salvant’s fabulous vocal mastery when she won the prestigious Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition in 2010. Grammys and a fearless voice from today’s music scene.
She has won the Grammy Award for Best Female Jazz Voice back-to-back for her last three albums, including The Window (2018), a duets disc with pianist Sullivan Fortner that explores the traditions of a piano-voice duet and elevates the expressive possibilities within the gender. With only Fortner’s accompaniment, the two are free to improvise and harmonize, playing freely with the tempo, harmony, melody, and phrasing of their themes.
