FCT Advanced Computing Competition receives more than 130 applications
The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), through its National Scientific Computing Unit (FCCN) and with the support of the INCoDe.2030 Program, reveals that the preliminary results of the first edition of the Advanced Computing Projects Competition exceeded expectations.
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he first phase received 133 applications from different scientific areas and institutions. Remember, this is the first competition to provide computational resources with about 27 million core.hours on national platforms inserted in the National Network for Advanced Computing (RNCA).
Navigator, from the Advanced Computing Laboratory at the University of Coimbra (LCA-UC) registered 21 applications and Oblivion, from High-Performance Computing at the University of Évora (HPC-EU), obtained 20.
With regard to the scientific fields with the most applications, the podium is led by the Exact Sciences and Engineering category, with a total of 96. Life and Health Sciences and Natural and Environmental Sciences added up to both 17. Finally, they have only registered 3 applications for Social Sciences and Humanities.
The vast majority of applications, 71%, fall under the type of access A1 – Preparatory Access. The typology is recommended for all scientific and innovation projects without previous experience in Advanced Computing (HPC) or High-Performance Computing (HTC) or without a history of use in RNCA’s computing resources.
