Fernando Pimenta wins bronze in K1 1000 and assures presence in Tokyo in 2020
The Benfica athlete did not get the gold medal but secured his presence at next year’s Olympic Games.
[dropcap type=”background”]T[/dropcap]he Portuguese canoeist qualified for the Tokyo2020 Olympic Games, winning the bronze medal in the K1 1000 meters final of the Szeged World Championships in Hungary.
Pimenta, who defended the 2018 world title, competed on track four and finished the race in 3.37.63 minutes, being beaten by Hungarian Balint Kopas, gold medalist with 3.36.07, and Czech Josef Dostal, silver medalist. with 3.37.31.
The Portuguese canoeist was runner-up in London 2012, with Emanuel Silva at K2 1,000, and fifth at K1 1000 at Rio2016, where he was sixth at K4 1000 with Emanuel, João Ribeiro and David Fernandes.
