ABOUT JÚLIO RESENDE

Júlio Resende, who performs on June 5th at Caixaforum Madrid, is praised by the international music magazine “Songlines” for his profound ability to reinvent traditional Portuguese music through the piano. His concept of “Fado Jazz” is a perfect example of how Jazz can be a global language of free musical expression, an idea he has maintained since its beginnings, more than 30 years ago. The freedom of the Portuguese people is intrinsically linked to the Carnation Revolution of 1974, to which Resende dedicates his song “Sons of the Revolution”.

His trio in Madrid, composed by Bruno Chaveiro on Portuguese guitar and Peu Madureira on vocals, presents a unique interaction that reveals the rare harmony between Fado and Jazz, with the special participation of the winner of the Eurovision Festival, Salvador Sobral, further enriching plus the musical experience. These exceptional connections exemplify the essence of Resende’s music: freedom, emotional depth and a living continuity of deeply rooted traditions, marking his debut at the Fado Festival in 2024.

In the same year, she collaborates with Pablo Alborán on “Perdóname”, becoming the first Portuguese artist to reach number one in Spain.

In 2012, she presented “Alma”, asserting herself as the most international Portuguese artist and receiving awards in Portugal. The following albums, “Canto” (2014) and “Maria” (2016), also reached double platinum status, consolidating their relationship with Brazil. In 2023, she released “Portuguesa”, raising the standards of fado, and in 2024, she arrived at the Fado Festival for a unique concert with freedom as the guiding thread.
