FRIMOR is about to start in Rio Maior
GNR and Nena concerts, Portuguese Parachuting Cup, onion and regional products
The Rio Maior National Onion Fair takes place from August 29th to September 1st and features speeches by the Mayor of Rio Maior and the Deputy Secretary of State and Parliamentary Affairs. The event maintains the century-old tradition of selling onions and features the return of the Portuguese Parachuting Cup.
Shows, a parachuting show, regional gastronomy and the sale of onions, agri-food products and handicrafts are some of the proposals for the 2024 edition of the National Onion Fair (FRIMOR), which takes place from August 29th to September 1st, at the Rio Maior Multipurpose Pavilion and its surrounding area.
The inauguration of FRIMOR, scheduled for August 29th at 5 pm, will feature speeches by the Mayor of Rio Grande, Filipe Santana Dias; the Deputy Secretary of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Carlos Abreu Amorim; the deputy and President of the Rio Maior City Council, Isaura Morais; and the president of the Caldas da Rainha City Council, Vítor Marques.
GNR, Nena and Cláudia Martins & Minhotos Marotos are the headliners of this event, which will also have the Philharmonic Bands Festival livening up the last day of the event.
Cláudia Martins & Minhotos Marotos will perform on August 29th. Nena will debut in Rio Maior on the 30th and, on Saturday, the 31st, it will be GNR’s turn. Tickets for the Nena and GNR shows can be purchased at the Cineteatro de Rio Maior, on Ticketline and the days of the shows at the fair’s box office.
The main shows are joined by performances from other bands and DJs: Companhia D’el Rei and Los Gordos on the 29th; Yes Senhor and DJ Vassalo on the 30th; and Trigloditas and DJ Nuno Remix on the 31st.
The Portuguese Skydiving Cup is also returning to Rio Maior for an unforgettable two-day air show. This is a landing precision test, which will take place on Saturday, 30th, between 9 am and 7 pm, and on Sunday, September 1st, between 8 am and 2 pm. The initiative is from the National Parachute Club “Os Berets Verdes”, with the support of the Rio Maior City Council, the Portuguese Parachuting Federation and DESMOR.
Onions, agri-food products and regional cuisine
This year, FRIMOR once again has an area dedicated to around 15 “ceboleiros” for the sale of their products, thus maintaining a century-old tradition of this fair.
There will also be, in the Multipurpose Pavilion, sales of crafts and products from the municipality’s agri-food sector – such as salt, cheese, olive oil, and honey, among others –, a business exhibition area, in addition to an area reserved for regional cuisine, sweets and liqueurs. The fair also has an entertainment area, the Frimor Fun Park, and a large gastronomic space, where visitors can taste the region’s typical cuisine, prepared by Rio Maior associations.
