João Sousa qualified for the quarter finals in Biel

Sousa, currently 176th in the world rankings, defeated Ritschard, 297th in the world hierarchy, and coming from qualifying, 6-3, 6-2, in one hour and 10 minutes.

In the fight for access to the semi-finals, Guimarães will face Dutchman Tim Van Rijthoven, 265th in the ATP ranking, in what will be the first meeting between them.

This is the second time that João Sousa reaches the quarter-finals of a tournament on the challenger circuit this season, after having fallen at that stage in Mallorca.
