João Sousa starts Belgrade ATP 250 qualifying with a win
In what was the first meeting between the two, João Sousa got the better of 19-year-old Brandon Nakashima, in two sets, with the 6-4 and 6-2 partials.
After breaking his opponent twice in the opening end and suffering only one ‘break’, the Minho was at a disadvantage (0-2) in the second match, but, with three breaks in service, managed to recover and seal the victory by after an hour and 19 minutes.
The Portuguese fourth seed will face in the second and last round of the qualifying round the French Arthur Rinderknech (129th ATP), who defeated the Japanese and fifth pre-designated, Yuichi Sugita (109th ATP), 6- 1 and 6-2.
