Jon Luz e Maria Alice enchant at Trindade
Trindade INATEL Theater
In a partnership between the INATEL Foundation and the Festival Músicas do Mundo de Sines, “CICLO MUNDOS” brought to Trindade another fantastic music duo from Cape Verde, Jon Luz and Maria Alice, who sang and enchanted a plane of fans, where they were present, among others, Cremilda Medina and the poet Regina Correia in a concert that was also a tribute to Celina Pereira, great queen of the Morna.
“Jon Luz invites Maria Alice” is the title of the disc, to be released shortly, which both presented at Trindade, these and two unavoidable references from the morna, distinguished as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by Unesco.
Jon Luz, multi-instrumentalist musician, composer and producer, settled in Lisbon in 1998 to join the contemporary dance company of choreographer Clara Andermatt. With Maria Alice at his side giving voice to a group of mornas, which, in addition to a couple of undisputed classics by Paulino Vieira or B. Leza, also include originals of his own, Jon Luz is definitely ready for a new phase in his career.
Born in Santo Antão, but educated in São Vicente, he made his musical journey alongside great names in music, such as Ildo Lobo, Tito Paris, Sara Tavares, António Zambujo and, of course, Maria Alice, Cape Verdean singer who made her debut in 1993 with Ilha D’Sal and who went on tour with the legendary Cesária Évora.
Jon Luz and Maria Alice, Cape Verdeans who adopted Lisbon to live, were accompanied on stage by great musicians from Brazil, Pedro Lopes on guitar, Sergio Figueira also on guitar, Cau Paris on percussion, Afonso on cavaquinho and Renato Santos on bass .
