ionnalee is the stage name and solo musical project of Jonna Lee, a Swedish singer, songwriter, and art director. She is recognised for her pioneering work fusing electropop, avant-garde music, and cinematic visual storytelling.
Jonna Lee initially gained fame through the art project iamamiwhoami, launched anonymously in 2009. This mysterious project, characterised by artistic videos and an unconventional music release, generated enormous speculation and online cult following, establishing her as an artist who uses the internet in innovative ways to tell stories.
In 2017, Jonna Lee formalised her solo work under the name ionnalee, which maintains the avant-garde visual and musical aesthetic that made her famous, but with a more assertive and personal identity.
ionnalee’s music is a blend of electronic beats, atmospheric synthesisers, and her ethereal, emotional voice. Each album and single is typically accompanied by a series of interconnected music videos that form a complete film, reinforcing her style as a multimedia artist. Her work explores themes of identity, nature, technology, and isolation.
Everyone Afraid to Be Forgotten (2018) is her critically acclaimed debut solo album, which includes songs such as “Samaritan” and “Not Human.” Remember the Future (2019) continues her exploration of electronic soundscapes and complex visual narratives.
ionnalee is considered one of Scandinavia’s most innovative artists, admired for the way she controls every aspect of her artistic creation, from musical composition to the production of her videos.
