The 11th edition of the Lyrical Singing Contest returns to the stage at the end of April to promote the meeting of young lyric singers, with advanced studies and at the beginning of their careers.
[dropcap]A[/dropcap]fter being postponed in November 2020, due to the current pandemic situation, the Lyrical Singing Contest will take place between April 14th and 30th, with events in various locations in the country, such as Angra do Heroísmo, Porto and Cascais . The contestants of the Lyrical Singing Contest will pass the eliminatory events, to be held on April 14, 21 and 27 in Angra do Heroísmo, Porto and Cascais, respectively, followed by the semifinals on April 23, in Porto, and April 28, in Cascais.
Once the 7 finalist lyric singers have been selected, the final test will be held on April 30, at 4 pm, at the Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB), in Lisbon. The finalists will present a set of two Chamber songs, one of which is of Portuguese language by Portuguese composer, and an Opera Aria. The final race will be open to the public, subject to the maximum capacity in force, and will be transmitted, through the Contest’s YouTube channel, through “Live Streaming”.
Contrary to the adversity of the pandemic situation that has been experienced in the country since March 2020, the Portuguese Rotary Foundation and the Artistic School of Music at the National Conservatory, a reference partner in the organization, consider the contest to be of paramount importance, aware of the current precarious situations with which artists, cultural institutions and other agents are currently struggling.
The Lyrical Singing Contest is promoted by the Portuguese Rotary Foundation and aims to promote the artistic improvement of young lyric singers, with advanced studies and at the beginning of their careers, supporting the continuation of their studies through the awarding of scholarships, indispensable for the fulfillment of the artistic aspirations of young people. This support is offered by the Fundação Rotária Portuguesa and other entities associated with the contest, as is the case of the Lisbon City Council, which sponsors the Contest again, for the 9th time, with the “Cidade de Lisboa Scholarship”.
Since 2007, the Portuguese Rotary Foundation’s Lyrical Singing Contest has been asserting itself as a major initiative in the dissemination of lyrical singing at national level, rewarding a wide range of singers who currently score on national and international stages, such as sopranos Susana Gaspar and Sónia Grané, the mid-soprano Cátia Moreso or the baritones André Baleiro and Hugo Oliveira, among other laureates.
