The Coliseu welcomes Beth Gibbons, the voice of Portishead, in 2025

Beth Gibbons, the voice of Portishead, has just announced the tour “Lives Outgrown” with a concert scheduled at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon on July 16, 2025.

Tickets are on sale this Friday, November 22 at 10 am, in everythingisnew.pt and the usual places.

Released in May this year, Lives Outgrown is composed of 10 beautiful new tracks recorded over 10 years, with production by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, The Last Dinner Party) and Beth Gibbons herself, and also Lee Harris (Talk Talk).

This is his most personal work to date, the result of a period of deep reflection and change – “many goodbyes,” in the words of Beth. Goodbyes from family, friends and even from who she used to be. These are songs from a midpoint of life when looking to the future no longer brings the same promises and looking back gains a sharper focus and melancholy.

“I realized what a life without hope is,” says Beth. “And that was a sadness I had never felt. Before, I could change my future, but when you’re against your body, you can’t force it to do something it doesn’t want.”

The songs address themes such as motherhood, anxiety and menopause (which Beth describes as “a massive audit” and “a huge hangover” that “cuts your legs off”), as well as inevitably mortality.

“People started dying,” says Beth. “When we’re young, we don’t know the endings, we don’t know how it’s going to end. We thought we’ll get through this. It will get better. But some endings are hard to digest.” However, emerging from this decade of change and realignment has left Beth with a sense of renewal. “Now that I’ve reached the other side, I think: you have to be brave,” she says.

In addition to her work with Portishead, the album Out Of Season with Rustin Man (2002) and recording of her interpretation of the Symphony of Sad Songs by Górecki (2014), Beth was more recently heard collaborating with Kendrick Lamar on the track “Mother I Sober” from the album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers (2022).
