Joanna Coelho’s new projects

2 Tracks and an EP from Psytrance to Rawstyle

The Brazilian artist continues to break boundaries and create music of all colours. Labels such as TMinus or Sonaxx, as well as a track with two versions for her label, Reverse Records.

Joanna Coelho is one of the most interesting figures in the international hard techno scene. A cyclone in the booth and a multifaceted artist who mixes three tracks, dances, and even uses her own voice. That’s why her sets are a unique experience. She has played in countries such as Spain, Colombia, Austria, Germany, Argentina, France, and the Czech Republic, and has gained support from artists like 999999999, Shlomo, Dax J, and even Amelie Lens throughout her career.

Production runs in her veins and the month of November will be fruitful. On the 1st, she released “Macete,” a track that has two versions, the ‘bouncy’ and the ‘hard.’ The first is groovy and the second is industrial, maintaining the same vocals and melody. It’s a dynamic track that represents Joanna’s essence very well and is already available on Reverse Records, her label. We continue with ‘Make you Move,’ an EP released on November 8 by the English label TMinus Records. Composed of three tracks that unite various genres but share a constant rhythm.

In the first track, ‘Another One,’ we hear touches of hard groove with hard techno kicks. A linear yet dynamic sound that envelops us and perfectly launches us into the two following tracks. ‘Make You Move’ is a somewhat darker track but equally full of life. It combines vocals delivering the message “I wanna make you move” with all kinds of hard techno kicks, featuring an industrial kick that persists throughout most of the theme guiding it. On the other hand, we have synthesizers and acids that create drops breaking with this same variety of sounds. In short, a fast-paced journey driven by a message that compels us to keep dancing.

The EP culminates with ‘Warrior,’ perhaps the most complete song of all, as it culminates industrial hard techno with a psy foundation, a melody, and a female voice that brings calm to the madness without losing intensity. A track where Joanna showcases her ability as a producer, stepping out of her comfort zone to achieve a great result, and where the creation of drops signals an entry into something destructive, but does so with an angelic voice. This surprises and gives it a very appreciable touch of mysticism.

Speaking of angelic (or better, demonic) voices, let’s move on to the latest release, “Bad Bitch,” a collaboration with Paul Clark on the German label Sonaxx, scheduled for release on November 29. A track that combines a very high level of production in hard techno.

Rises and falls in intensity and a rhythm that grabs us and only lets us go when it breaks down into huge drops with the cherry on top, Joanna’s voice. A voice that fits perfectly into the classic intensity of a hard techno track and enhances it even more, and which will be a bomb when played live. Although she has already done so in sets by legends of the genre like Rebekah.

And this is just the beginning, as Joanna Coelho has been in the studio and will finish the year strongly in terms of productions. Furthermore, a new European tour will soon be revealed where we will see all these tracks and many more that, combined with the artist’s style and energy, will energize all the booths and dance floors she steps on.
