Pichardo was third in the triple jump in Hungary
The Portuguese Pedro Pablo Pichardo qualified today in the third place of the triple jump of the Gyulai István Memorial, the athletics ‘meeting’ that took place in Szekesfehervar, Hungary.
The Portuguese-Cuban managed 17.28 meters, his best record of the season, and only lost to two especially strong opponents – the Burkinese Hughes Fabrice Zango, winner with 17.43, and the American Christian Taylor, who reached 17, 34.
Zango, bronze medalist of the last World Cup, becomes the world leader of the year and Taylor, two-time Olympic champion, ‘jumps’ to second. In the list of the year, Pichardo is fourth, immediately behind Cuban Andy Diaz (17.30).
In the same ‘meeting’ the Portuguese also Evelise Veiga was eighth placed in the long jump, with 6.43 meters. The victory went to Belarusian Nastassiaa Mironchyk-Ivanova, the world leader of the year, with 6.73 ,.
