Portugal holds the last training session in Belgrade
The Portuguese soccer team is training today in Belgrade, on Saturday’s clash with Serbia, which will be the third match of the Portuguese team in the Euro2020 qualifying group B.
Portugal has a scheduled session at the Rajko Mitic Stadium, home of the Red Star, at 5:30 pm (16:30 Lisbon), with the first 15 minutes open to the media.
Earlier, at 16:30 (15:30), coach Fernando Santos and a player still to be designated will preview the meeting at a press conference in the same venue.
Fernando Santos has featured all 25 players in the squad, including Ferro and Daniel Podence, who are newcomers, and European champions Renato Sanches, who are returning to their national team options.
Ferro, who plays for Benfica, was not included in the initial squad but was eventually called in to surrender Pepe, who was dismissed due to injury.
At the start of qualifying in Group B, the Portuguese side had two home draws, with Ukraine (0-0) and Serbia (1-1).
Portugal’s current European title holders are still fourth and penultimate in Group B with just two points, although they have two fewer games than Ukraine, who leads with 10, and Luxembourg, who are second with four.
With one more game than Portugal, Serbia is third in the standings, also with four points, while Lithuania follows last with just one point.
The first two places in the group give direct access to the Euro2020. If they fail to qualify in the group, Portugal is at least assured of a play-off presence via the League of Nations.
The meeting is scheduled for 20:45 (19:45) and will be arbitrated by Turkish Cüneyt Çakir.
