In the second summer in times of pandemic, cancellations of festivals and other events continue. “Bath 29”, a traditional festival in Lagos, is no exception. It was against this backdrop that, last year, the Algarve Boat Festival emerged: a stage, several dance floors, over the sea of Lagos. It was SeaBookings, the Portuguese startup dedicated to boosting maritime tourism, with the support of the municipality of Lagos, that launched the festival, presenting a unique concept, with a stage boat, which provides animation in safety, in accordance with the guidelines of the DGS.
The Algarve Boat Festival presents an innovative way to celebrate in times of pandemic. In the two previous editions, the festival sold out in a few days, and Lagos received Portuguese and foreigners, of various age groups, who got together at sea, around a stage boat. Each group has its own dance floor: a boat.
Similar to its first edition, August 29 was the date chosen for the Festival’s third edition, to mark, in a symbolic way, the tradition of the Bath Festival 29. It is a local tradition that has been transformed. much, in a manifestation of a popular character rooted in the Lacobrigense culture, being one of the main events of the municipality.
After the success of the first edition of the festival, the second edition took place in June this year to mark the beginning of summer. In the third edition, the poster of the second is repeated, with the Algarvian Pete Tha Zouk as the headliner. To warm up, DJ Astrella will team up with Carlos Glória Sax to make the boats celebrate. The artists will perform on the stage boat, which will not have clients on board, only organization.
Festival-goers can join their boat, whether owned or rented. Limited places are available on their own boats, for those interested who want to participate in the event, but do not have their own boat or are not able to rent it. “Early Bird” tickets sold out within a few days of pre-sales, but there are still plenty of options, from luxury catamarans to traditional sailboats.
The Algarve Boat Festival is supported by the Municipality of Lagos and the Marina de Lagos. The Marina offers overnight stays, after the festival, for boats coming from other marinas. The Port of Lagos Captaincy, as well as the Maritime Police, will be present to enforce the Contingency Plan and guarantee the event’s security.
The show will start at 15:00 with a “Festival Parade” along the coast, from Lagos bar to Praia da Luz, where the boats will anchor, and will last approximately 3 and a half hours. Tickets can be purchased online, through the festival’s website or from official partners. For those who cannot physically be present, the Festival will be open to everyone, via live streaming, on the Facebook pages of the Municipality of Lagos and SeaBookings.
