Ana Bacalhau presents “Fósforo”, third single from the new album

Today, Fósforo, a new single from Ana Bacalhau’s third solo album, is released. The song was written and composed by Jorge Cruz and produced by João Só and is available on digital platforms and also in a music video, directed by Rita Seixas.

The ballad performed by Ana Bacalhau compares a relationship to the burning of a match, which, like love, lights up brightly and quickly, consuming itself intensely. In her words:
“The phosphorus is the beginning of the spark. It’s all there, ready to burn, but for the fire to start, you have to lose your head. The fuel-ready to warm hearts only ignites if the head throws itself against the sandpaper. And so we continued, knowing we were screwed from the start. From orange to red, from red to grey black. Everything that lives, dies, we already know, but let it live intensely, while it consumes itself.”

“Any song that references Jeff Buckley while talking about love and comparing it to a match deserves my full attention. When Jorge Cruz showed it to me, he knew she and I were a perfect match. Not only because of the delicious references in the lyrics but because the image of a short but intense love at the tip of a match that burns strong and fast moved me. If there is a perfect song, in its melody-lyrics-emotion relationship, this is it. It is precious and necessary for all those who, like me, when they love they go with everything they have and do not regret it, even if the ashes are an inevitability when the flame goes out”, the artist also says.

Fósforo is the third single from the album that Ana Bacalhau will release this year. The successor to Além da Curta Imaginação (2021) also features “Orelhas Moucas” and the most recent hit “Não Vás Embora, Rapaz!”, released last year in anticipation of one of the most anticipated Portuguese albums of 2024.
