Cooking Congress, themed “Food and Freedom,” kicks off on Sunday

Nirvana Studios in Oeiras

On September 29 and 30, at Nirvana Studios in Oeiras, dozens of world-renowned chefs and prominent speakers will share their perspectives on cooking, work, and life.

During these two days, the Cooking Congress will feature various interventions, gastronomic experiences, tastings, musical moments, and artistic installations.

In the year commemorating the 50th anniversary of April 25, the Congress has the theme “Food and Freedom” for debate and, following the theme of previous editions, African Connection, Cape Verde is this year’s guest country.

Formerly known as the Chefs’ Congress, the Cooking Congress presents a lineup that bridges new talents with personalities that have marked generations.

Among the two days and distributed across various stages, notable speakers include Vicky Sevilla, from Arrels, the youngest woman in Spain to earn a Michelin star; Christian F. Puglisi, from Denmark, recognized for the work he did at Relae, a venue distinguished by the Michelin guide and part of the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world; Pepe Solla, from Solla, a Michelin star and one of the great names in Spanish cuisine; Rodrigo Castelo, from Ó Balcão, who was recently awarded a Michelin star and a Green star; João Diogo Formiga, from Encanto, a Michelin star; Julien Montbabut, from Le Monument, a Michelin star; João Sá, from Sálá de João Sá, a Michelin star; and Filipe Fonseca Pinheiro, the Portuguese chef based in Switzerland and chef of the legendary Ville de Crissier, with three Michelin stars. But there is more, much more.

This edition also includes a special novelty: masterclasses by chef David Jesus and researcher Catarina Prista, promising to inspire those present.

On the second day of the event, Oeiras will host the much-anticipated final of the “Best Pastel de Nata 2024” competition. Created in 2009 by the gastronomer and jury president Virgílio Nogueiro Gomes, this year features 12 finalist establishments: Altis Belém Hotel & Spa, Bread & Friends, Casa do Padeiro, Castro – Atelier de Pastéis de Nata, Confeitaria Glória, Nat’elier, O Pãozinho das Marias, Padaria da Né, Pão da Ribeira, Pastelaria Aloma, Pastelaria Batalha, and Pastelaria País dos Doces.

The complete program, divided by days and stages, can be consulted here.

There are still tickets available, which include access to all the panels of the various stages, an exhibition area, lunch, and tastings of products.
