Rotterdam festival starts online today
Trying to circumvent the limitations imposed by the covid-19 pandemic, the festival decided to expand in two phases, from 1 to 7 February, and from 2 to 6 June.
In the programming of this first part, the film ‘Tracing Utopia’, by the Portuguese Catarina de Sousa and the American Nick Tyson, is in competition.
In the competition for feature films, the Brazilian film ‘Madalena‘, by Madiano Marcheti, is also in world premiere. In the ‘Big Screen’ competition comes the also Brazilian ‘Carro Rei‘, by Renata Pinheiro.
In this week’s program, the Angolan visual artist Kiluanji Kia Henda will also be highlighted, with the exhibition of three short films: ‘Concrete Affection – Zopo Lady’ (2014), ‘Havemos de voltar‘ (2017) and ‘There is no light inside the mirror‘ (2020).
Today, the festival officially opens with the film ‘Riders of justice‘, by Anders Thomas Jensen, starring Mads Mikkelsen.
Among the guests at the talks that the festival will promote online are Mads Mikkelsen, director Kelly Reichardt, actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, and musician Nicolás Jaar.
In parallel to the festival, Cinemart, the co-production market, is planned for professionals, and for which the project for the fictional feature film ‘Légua‘, by Filipa Reis and João Miller Guerra, was selected.
