Lobo Antunes nominated for the Dublin International Literary Award
The Portuguese author is part of the long list chosen by libraries around the world, which includes authors from 30 countries.
Among the first finalists of that award are the already distinguished “Rapariga, Mulher, Outro”, by Bernardine Evaristo (Booker Prize), “Pátria“, by Fernando Aramburo (National Narrative Prize), and “Os Rapazes de Nickel”, by Colson Whitehead (Pulitzer Prize for fiction).
The list also includes authors such as Elif Shafak, Colum McCann, Heather Morris, Elizabeth Acevedo, Fernanda Melchor, Carina Sainz Borgo, Ocean Vuong, Brit Bennett and Daniel Kehlmann.
António Lobo Antunes’ book “Até que as pedras se tornem mais leves que a água” (“Until Stones Become Lighter Than Water”) was published in Portugal in 2017 by D. Quixote and is a return of the author to the ghosts of the war of Angola.
The Dublin Literary Prize is organized by the municipality of the capital of Ireland and managed by the city’s public libraries, with a monetary value of 100 thousand euros, to be delivered in full to the author of the winning work, if it is written in English, or, in the case of translation, to be divided between writer and translator, in the amounts of 75 thousand euros and 25 thousand euros, respectively.
The list of finalists for the Dublin International Literary Prize 2021 will be announced on 25 March and the winner will be revealed on 20 May.
