Malú Garcia live for the first time in Porto

September 17th, 6pm – Novo Ático

Violinist Malú Garcia performs for the first time in the city of Porto, on September 17th, at 6 pm, in the Novo Ático space at Coliseu Porto Ageas.

She will present her first album of originals “Caminhos”, marked by the combination of different styles which combines the timbre of the violin with the harmonies of the Portuguese guitar, piano, double bass, and also the rhythms of percussion. For Malú Garcia, this album “puts the different instruments into direct conversation, passing these World Music dialogues through the jazzy language of fado, swing, tango, samba and, even, morna.”

The violinist will be on stage with musicians Carlos Garrote (double bass), Pedro Baião (piano), Sebastian Scheriff (percussion), and Bruno Chaveiro (Portuguese guitar).

The artist has taken several “paths” in her musical career and her influences range from classical composers, such as Bach, to more current performers in different genres, such as Júlio Resende, Bernardo Sasseti, Bruno Pernadas, Snarky Puppy, among others that she admires so much. From these influences, the creation of this unique group in Portugal is born, which, at the moment, joins the “voice” of the classic violin to the traditional strings of the Portuguese guitar, a luxuriant and unique mix, and sound.

Malú Garcia has performed in classical music concerts, with national and international orchestras, and, in his recent career, he has participated in concerts with Carlão, Capitão Fausto, and Sara Correia, among other Portuguese artists. Her most recent concerts featured special guests, fado singers Teresinha Landeiro and Pedro Flores.

The artist highlights that “I don’t know how to live without the stage. The presence of the public, the computers, the lights, my musicians, and the transmission of the energy of my music to each person who listens to it is a great “essential good” in my life.”

His musical studies began in Lisbon, passed through Évora, and ended, academically, in the United Kingdom, eventually returning to Lisbon. His academic training began in classical music, where he gained the basic tools to stand out today in a solo album with original compositions.

Critics were impressed by the debut album “Caminhos”, thanks to songs such as “Lágrima D’Vinho”, “Carmim” and “Dois Mundos”. The band is now getting ready to make the Porto audience surrender to their music on the 17th of September, at 6 pm, at Novo Ático, at Coliseu do Porto.
