Masego live in Portugal

Coliseu dos Recreios

In March, Masego returns to Portugal for a unique concert at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon.

1st part with Mereba and Devin Morrison.
March 8, 8:30 pm.

It’s good to have some of the Portuguese’s favourite international stars back in our country and Masego is a fine example of that. During his time at Super Bock Super Rock in 2019, the artist won over the public with his irresistible mix of jazz, soul and R&B. Now he is back in Portugal, as part of the Studying Abroad Tour 2022, to make known his new songs. With the first parts in charge of Mereba and Devin Morrison, the concert is scheduled for March 8 on the stage of Coliseu dos Recreios, in Lisbon.

With Jamaican blood and a South African name, which means blessing, Masego is, in fact, a bomb of culture and creativity. His music is a kind of “TrapHouseJazz”, even so, all together, as he defines it, and is influenced by names like Pharell, Michael Jackson, Jamie Foxx, John P. Kee, André 3000 or Cab Calloway.

Despite feeling very comfortable when looking for inspiration in other decades, Masego is an artist of his time and, as such, started to make a name for himself on Youtube and Soundcloud, combining the best beats with the sound of his saxophone and a full voice of soul.

And the result of these first experiences on digital platforms was the EP “The Pink Polo”, which had the precious collaboration of the Texan producer Medasin and which would eventually result in a tour that took Masego’s music a little around the world.

The debut album, “Lady Lady”, saw the light of day in 2018 and focused on the figure of the woman and all her charms. This record confirmed the best expectations in relation to Masego, revealing a sophisticated, eclectic artist with a series of resources that put him at the forefront.

More recently, Masego offered us yet another EP, inspired by his travels and memories, marking a phase of growth, both artistic and personal. “Studying Abroad” came out in 2020 and reveals an artist capable of leading the audience on an unforgettable musical journey, full of jazz and charm, thanks to songs like “Silver Tongue Devil” and “Mystery Lady” (both with millions of views on the YouTube).

It is on this trip that the Portuguese public is invited to embark, on March 8, 2022, at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon.

The first parts of the concert will be in charge of Mereba and Devin Morrison.

Mereba has charted a unique path, winning over audiences and critics thanks to her mix of R&B, folk and hip-hop. Her story with music begins when she was just four years old, and since then, she has never stopped deepening that passion. Sponsored by Stevie Wonder, Mereba was also influenced by someone who always encouraged her to continue to produce her own music. In recordings such as “The Jungle Is The Only Way Out” and the most recent “Spilligion”, Mereba proves that she is an artist always testing the limits of her own language and in tune with the creative spirit and artistic irreverence of artists such as Masego, who will be in Lisbon.

Blending 90s R&B influences with gospel, hip-hop and funk, Devin Morrison is a skilled singer/songwriter known for his sensual and groove-oriented anthems. Born in Orlando, Florida, Morrison was raised in a musical family, the son of David “Dah-Vi” Morrison, who played alongside his brothers in Chicago-based 1970s gospel group Morrison Echoes. Growing up, he took piano lessons, and as a teenager, he played hip-hop beats with his brothers. He then honed his skills by studying composition and recording music at Oakwood University in Alabama. In 2019, he released his debut album “Bussin’” on the Paris-based producer Onra’s NBN label, which featured guests such as Daz Dillinger, Joyce Wrice and King, as well as his father and brother (Lakks Mable ). Towards the end of the year, Morrison collaborated on themes by the likes of Phonte, Zo!, Nao Yoshioka and Submerse. More recently, he collaborated with Masego on the single “Yamz”, which we will be able to safely hear on March 8th, at Coliseu dos Recreios.
