UEFA confirms Champions League final at Porto stadium
UEFA confirmed on Thursday that the Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City will be held at Estádio do Dragão on 29 May.
The final was initially scheduled for the Ataturk Olympic in Istanbul, but the pandemic situation in Turkey, which just over a week ago entered the UK ‘red list’ due to the high number of positive Covid-19 cases, motivated the alteration.
The fact that the Portuguese authorities allowed the public to be present at the stadium was decisive, as the statement also explains, which still does not confirm the capacity of the venue.
Thus, Portugal will host the second consecutive Champions League final, after last year it was held at Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon, between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
