Valete in Angola at LuandaGinfest

June 3rd

In the year in which he celebrates 20 years of career, the Portuguese rapper Valete returns not only to records (he released the EP Aperitivo in January) but also to concerts. Later this week he will be at Teatro Municipal da Guarda, on May 27th and, weeks later, he will be part of the cast of the Sol da Caparica festival.

Valete is the artistic name of Keidje Torres Lima.
With a career that started in 1997 (accompanied by Adamastor and Bónus) he founded Canal 115 and later the publisher Horizontal. That same year, at the age of 16, he began to be invited to mixtapes released by DJs such as Bomberjack and Cruzfader. In order to finish his studies, he took a short hiatus from music, returning in 2002 with his debut album Educação Visual.

The following album, Serviço Público, released in 2006, further highlights his left-wing political side (when he was young he even attended the circles of the Portuguese Communist Youth).

Valete has always been referred to as one of the great lyricists of Portuguese music and was widely recognized when his lyrics “Anti-Herói” were chosen by the Ministry of Education to appear in the 12th-grade history books. The third project, the EP Aperitivo, arrives only in January 2023 and unannounced on digital platforms. Don’t think that Valete didn’t create or edit music between his albums, nothing could be more of a lie.

The single has been the “arma” of choice for this Portuguese rapper, as examples are Rap Consciente e Poder (2017), Colete Amarelo (feat. Loromance) and BFF (2019) or Rua do Poço dos Negros and Olimpo (feat. Phoenix Rdc and Virgul) (2020).

Aperitivo is thus the most recent EP by Valete and which is being released on stage.
