When the British finally managed to receive good beer, to their liking, in India, they were so happy that they celebrated an entire day.
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]hat day was August 6, now celebrated as International IPA Day. This may not even be the real story, but it doesn’t matter either. What really matters, and it is necessary to retain, is that Lagunitas will offer an IPA, when buying another.
It is said that we were in the middle of the 19th century, during the British occupation of India. From England liters of Pale Ale style beer were sent in barrels that arrived with their quality changed to Asia.
After many attempts, the solution was found by adding more hops, which works as a natural preservative. These changes ended up creating a style, India Pale Ale, better known as IPA, which is already the 4th most consumed beer style in the World, just behind Pilsner (1st), the Wheat Beers (2nd) and Belgian Beers (3rd).
Many years later, this style of craft beer, which has grown the most in volume recently, continues to be so marked that it has spread throughout the world and is celebrated as the International IPA Day, which this year happens to August 6.
Tony Magee brought this emblematic style to Lagunitas in 1995. It ended up becoming so iconic in Petaluma, California, that it seems that some people even consider it a brand in its own right.
Lagunitas IPA is an amber beer, more bitter, with intense and fresh aromas of hops and is much longer lasting. It also has a touch of caramel malt that makes it richer and gives more body, balancing with bitterness.
It has an alcohol content of 6.2% and should be consumed ideally between 4 and 7 degrees of temperature. It is available in a barrel, bottle and, more recently in Portugal, in a tin version, even more refreshing for the summer.
