“Broadway Baby” returns to Casino Estoril with a double session of shows
April 5th and 6th
“Broadway Baby – The History of the American Musical” returns, on the 5th and 6th of April, at 9:30 pm, at the Estoril Casino Auditorium.
This is a double session of shows that will feature Henrique Feist as the protagonist, accompanied on the piano by his brother, musical director, Nuno Feist.
In the west side of New York, roughly from 42nd Street and almost to Central Park, theatres follow one another, enchanting with their bright posters. There are more than 20, more than 30, more than 40. It’s Broadway. It was in these theatres that the American Musical took shape.
In a breathtaking show, Henrique Feist tells us how it all happened. But the story will only be told until Disney invades Broadway because it would be another show from then on. Going back: Why did theatres settle in this area of the city? Who were the first authors? And the first composers? What’s so special about songs? What dream is this thing called Broadway?
Broadway exists every time anyone anywhere on earth whistles Blue Moon or hums I’ve Got You Under My Skin. Broadway exists when we watch films like West Side Story, Hair, Chicago or Dreamgirls.
Broadway exists when we watch musicals filmed in their respective theatres via streaming. Broadway exists when we see series like Will and Grace, Glee, and Smash. Broadway exists in many of the albums by Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Liza Minelli, Jamie Cullum and Lady Gaga. Broadway exists because there are dreams that are so big that they don’t fit anywhere else. Broadway, more than just an area of New York City, is a state of mind.
Distinguished with prestigious awards, namely the Portuguese Society of Authors Award – SPA and the Golden Globe for Best Theater Actor 2012 given to Henrique Feist, the musical “Broadway Baby” won over, in 2013, the audience that sold out the Auditorium, returning, already in February, with four sessions at Casino Estoril.
