A Peça (In 4 Shifts) takes the stage to celebrate April 25th

“Workers-artists” are back

Peripécia Teatro once again presents a show co-produced with Teatro de Vila Real, revisiting a story of “oppressors and oppressed”.

A Peça (In 4 shifts) returns to the stage in April, thus recalling the “revolutionary tone and a group of worker-artists”. This is how Peripécia Teatro – a company from Vila Real, which this year celebrates 20 years of activity – marks the celebrations of the 25th of April. The show will feature three performances: first in Matosinhos, at the Cineteatro Constantino Nery, on the 4th and 5th, and then at the Centro Cultural e Recreativo de Benagouro, in Vila Real, on the eve of the day that marks the Carnation Revolution.

The show, which premiered in 2022, follows the story of four workers who form an amateur theatre group in Vale de Saramago, an imaginary place marked by factory production and Catholicism in the 70s and 80s. Arantxa, Lurdinhas, Quim and Fonseca are faced with the imminent rupture of the group after the death of their leader, in an accident at the factory. A Peça (In 4 Turns) promotes reflection on freedom and is a tribute to the effort and courage of “worker-artists”, as well as all amateur artists.

Remember that the show came from the documentary Operário Amador, produced in 2021, and directed by Ramón De Los Santos. The project focuses on the history of the group of workers from Vale da Ave, whose amateur theatre group gave rise to the Associação Teatro Construção, in the 1970s. The commercial premiere of the documentary is scheduled for the last quarter of this year, in Lisbon, in Cinema City Alvalade.
