International Environmental Film Festival Celebrates 30 Years with Identity Inspired by the Spirit of the Mountain
CineEco Reborn with New Image and Website
CineEco – Serra da Estrela International Environmental Film Festival presents a new visual identity and a new website, marking the beginning of a new phase, in tune with the place where it was born and the environmental challenges of our time.
The change occurs in the year the festival celebrates its 31st consecutive edition. CineEco returns to Seia from October 10th to 18th.
Inspired by its birthplace, the new image uses mountains as a universal symbol of protection and wisdom, evoking mythical figures from folk and Celtic cultures—trees with souls, guardian owls, or silent giants. An image that reflects CineEco itself: an empathetic, determined, creative festival deeply connected to nature.
CineEco’s new image resurfaces with the manifesto “We are the spirit of the mountain.” “The wind that whistles through the trees. The ancestral guardian of natural balance that protects rivers, trees, and animals. We are man and beast. We are nature itself,” the organisation maintains. This manifesto “is represented in what we have always been, now with a new face, reinforced energies, and with an eye to the future,” it adds.
The new logo and its accompanying universe: the colors, patterns, and textures, as well as the evocative figure of the forest spirit, reflect the fusion of folk tradition, nature, and a subtle visual language associated with cinema, with a typology of robust and determined geometric shapes: the “play” symbol incorporated into the letter “n,” while the remaining letters evoke ecology and folk essence.
Since 1995, CineEco has been held in the city of Seia, in the heart of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, and is today one of the oldest and most renowned environmental film festivals in Europe. In a geography that could be seen as a disadvantage, the festival found strength: its inland location gave it character, authenticity, and a sense of mission. From this, a brand that spans territory and internationalisation is born, as evidenced by the hundreds of films submitted each year and the growing presence of CineEco branches throughout the country and autonomous regions – bringing the best of environmental cinema to audiences nationwide.
The new official website – at the same address, www.cineeco.pt – reflects this evolution: modern, intuitive, and inclusive, designed to bring audiences, filmmakers, and partners closer together, expanding the festival’s cultural, environmental, and human impact.
About CineEco
CineEco is one of the oldest environmental film festivals in the world. Since its inception, the festival has not been confined within physical or cultural borders. Held in Seia, a city in the interior of the still asymmetrical country, it is promoted by a local government entity that, together with its people, has embraced environmental issues uninterruptedly for 31 years, remaining true to its values and principles. CineEco is a founding member and serves on the board of the Green Film Network, a platform of 40 environmental film festivals.
It is organised by the Municipality of Seia and has the High Patronage of the President of the Republic and the United Nations Department of Environment.
