Just a Change brings together 450 volunteers to rehabilitate homes in housing poverty

Just a Change, a non-profit association that for more than a decade has been dedicated to the rehabilitation of homes for people in precarious conditions in Portugal, is carrying out a solidarity effort in various regions of the country through its “Camp In” program.

During the summer months, around 450 volunteers, mostly university students, are rehabilitating houses in housing poverty in Portugal. Participating in this project allows you to come into contact with more isolated areas of the country that you are not familiar with and considerably increases your knowledge of the problem of housing poverty in Portugal. After participating in the program, a significant part claims to increase their sense of usefulness to society. On the other hand, the vast majority of families say that what most marks them is the presence and interaction with the volunteers.

The renovations addressed critical issues such as inadequate insulation, persistent dampness, and poor hygienic conditions, which can negatively affect the health and well-being of residents. Just a Change’s work aims to reduce these risks to promote safe and healthy environments. Decent housing is often the starting point of a new life, and Just a Change is committed to rebuilding lives through housing renovation.

From July to the end of September, more than 100 people from 58 families will have their homes renovated in the following locations:

  • Fornos de Algodres – July 02 – 16
