Soul and Funk on the loose at Maria Matos Theater

The Maria Matos Theater, in Lisbon, filled to hear the Cais Sodré Funk Connection, last Monday, in this that was the first concert after confinement, produced by Produtores Associados.

The night could not have started better, the warm voice of Sylk and the sensual of Tamin, the sounds of funk and soul of Cais Sodré Funk Connection, took us to the best soul/funk of the 60s and 70s, where we recognize the music by James Brown or Aretha Franklin, brought life and joy to an audience lacking in laughter, socializing, leaving the house.

Back on Track”, “Take it Like a Man”, “Offbeat”, “Everyday”, “It Takes a Heartbreak” and “Bring on The Good Times” were some of the themes that set fire to Teatro Maria Matos, without forgetting “ Like no Other ”, a ballad played brilliantly by Tamin.

It was a night when the warm music transported us to another place, making us forget almost three months of confinement, where we sang, clapped and danced without leaving the place. A night that brought life and joy to an audience lacking in laughter, socializing, leaving home.

Francisco Rebelo, on bass and João Cabrita, on the saxophone are also the great composers of this soul band, who together with Rui Alves on drums, João Gomes on keys, Miguel Marques on trombone, José Raminhos on trumpet and David Pessoa on guitar do the musical soul of Cais Sodré Funk Connection.

Portuguese music icon Paulo de Carvalho was the very special guest of Cais Sodré Funk Connection, “Mãe Negra“, “Os Meninos de Huambo” and “Internet“, were some of the songs with new musical arrangements that excited the audience.

It was definitely a memorable night.
