Portugal wins gold in seniors at the European Speed Skating Championship
The National Team entered the European Speed Skating Championship in the best possible way, in Canelas, with four medals: one gold and three silver.
Diogo Marreiros became European Champion in the 10,000 meters by points to eliminate. It is the first time in the sport’s history that a Portuguese senior athlete wins a gold medal.
Silver medals were won in the 5000 meters in points, in juveniles, by Miguel Monteiro; in the 10 thousand meters for points to eliminate, in juniors, by Marco Lira; and in the 500 meter team sprint, again in youth, by António Piteira and Jéssica Rodrigues.
