Prime Video reveals the first images of Tony
The miniseries that portrays four phases of the life of the Portuguese artist Tony will premiere later this year
Prime Video and TVI have just revealed the first images of the highly anticipated four-episode miniseries about the life of the Portuguese artist Tony.
Amazon Prime subscribers in Portugal can enjoy offers, free shipping, and entertainment, all in the same subscription for just 4.99 euros per month or 49.90 euros per year.
The miniseries follows the artist’s journey from his childhood in Armadouro, where he struggled against hunger and poverty, through his years of emigration in France, the beginning of his career, and the fight for success, to his recognition as one of Portugal’s greatest romantic singers. Tony is a fictional biographical miniseries with a musical tone, featuring a structure that combines the spectacularity of Tony Carreira’s grand concerts with his past. Two timelines help us build and unveil the lives and arcs of its characters. Two narrative lines complement each other in a journey of overcoming life’s challenges.
Each episode, reflecting the songs that give it its title, tells us about two phases of Tony’s life, in an arc of four episodes that reveals what his path was and is: a Portuguese story of overcoming and success of a romantic hero. A demonstration of how the strength of a dream overcame poverty, the absence of parents, disadaptation, and a hard life as an immigrant. A work of love, or else Tony Carreira would not be our greatest romantic singer, a series that reflects his struggles, values, personality, and passion: a passion for music, for his fans, for his family, and Portugal.
The cast features three actors who will play Tony Carreira at different stages of his life. Gabriel Conde will portray the singer between the ages of 6 and 10, while Duarte Estrela (Contado por Mulheres) will play the teenage version and Carlos Félix (Quero é Viver) in the young adult phase.
Duarte Grilo (Cacau) and Cleia Almeida (Papel Principal) are Tony’s parents, Custódia Gallego (Flor Sem Tempo) and João Lagarto (Flor Sem Tempo) are his grandparents, and Miguel Bugalho (Queridos Papás)will play his brother, José Antunes. His ex-wife, Fernanda Antunes, will be portrayed by Bárbara Lourenço. The rest of the cast includes Luís Coelho, Miguel Cunha (Glória), André Susano (Prisioneira) and Miguel Mateus (Bem Bom).
Tony joins the growing catalogue of Portuguese content on Prime Video, which includes series like Morangos com Açúcar, Sr. Rui, Operação Maré Negra, Pôr do Sol, O Clube, PRAXX, or documentaries like MARIA, Senhor Presidente – O Campeonato de Uma Vida, Fábrica de Sonhos: Benfica, Eu Amo o Benfica, and Quintana: Um Guerreiro Extraordinário.
About Tony
Olympia, 2001, the venue is sold out. The audience, mostly female, shouts one name in unison: Tony. It is the first time a Portuguese artist has completely filled the main concert hall of Paris, a memorable night that will be talked about for years, but it will also remind the protagonist, Tony Carreira, of a world of memories, in a journey of difficulties and victories, that led him to the point he always dreamed of.
