Pedro Burmester performs live with J.S. Bach's “Goldberg Variations” at the Casa de Mateus Foundation, Vila Real
After the release of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations album by Artway in October last year, renowned pianist Pedro Burmester continues to perform this work live in the Goldberg Burmester Cycle.
The next concerts will take place on May 24th and 25th at the Casa de Mateus Foundation in Vila Real, organised by Artway, in collaboration with the Barroco sem Fim Cycle, organised by the Casa de Mateus Foundation. It is worth mentioning that on the 24th, at 5 pm, there will be a pre-concert talk with the pianist and Professor Fátima Pombo. Admission is free, but subject to capacity.
In the words of Valter Hugo Mãe, who wrote the program notes for the album, “Pedro Burmester’s brilliant return to the Goldberg Variations is like that of a wise man ready to return home. Bach’s magnificent work now finds the pianist in an interpretation that can only be achieved by someone who has matured and who already traverses the musical monument with pure intuition. This album is the meeting of the perfect. Bach and Burmester. The centuries disappear so that the two can unite as parts of the same intelligence. One that risks everything, because what existed was little. There needed to be much more”.
The main objective of the Goldberg Burmester Cycle is to continue providing the opportunity for the most diverse audiences to attend an intimate concert live, which takes place mainly in beautiful historical heritage sites, allowing greater proximity to the audience.
