After finishing second among the drivers competing in the “FPAK Junior Team Rally” at the Water Rally – Transibérico Eurocidade Chaves-Verín, Francisco Fontes returns to the wheel of the Lancia Ypsilon HF Racing Rally6 tomorrow and Saturday, participating in the Viana do Castelo Rally.
His goals include “continuing to learn, gaining experience, and gaining confidence.”
The Viana do Castelo Rally is part of the North Rally Championship/2RM calendar. “It’s a perfect event to gain kilometers and prepare for the Central Portugal Glass Rally, which counts towards the FPAK Junior Team Rally,” explains Francisco Fontes.
The young student at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) admits: “I want to continue evolving and become faster and faster, but always aware that I need to finish the rallies to gain as much experience as possible. But the Viana do Castelo Rally will also be important for regaining the confidence lost after the initial scares I suffered in the previous rally.”
The Sports & You driver also makes a point of “welcoming Nuno Rodrigues da Silva, who will be my navigator for the next two rallies.” He is one of the most experienced and successful national co-drivers and a key figure in Portuguese motorsports.
The Viana do Castelo Rally will take place on October 10th and 11th and has 57 entries. The city of Viana do Castelo is the center of the event, which has nine asphalt qualifying stages, totalling 83.2 km, divided into two stages and three sections. The rally begins on Friday with the City Stage in downtown Viana do Castelo. On Saturday, the second stage is contested with a double passage through four qualifiers.
